Mangerial Decision/Accounting:

コース概要:

Managerial accounting differs sharply from financial accounting. Managerial accounting aims to help managers understand the activities or operating processes of their organization. Until recently, financial accounting overshadowed managerial accounting. Internal reports were often prepared from information intended for external financial reports. It had little relevance for internal decision making. About 20 years ago, this relationship began to change dramatically. Important forces for change included increased global competition, increased use of technology, and changing production practices. Some scholars believe that aligning modern managerial accounting practices with strategy has contributed to some of the years of tremendous economic prosperity of the US over the past two decades.

Compared to the past, today’s managerial accountants must have a much greater understanding of their firm’s strategic goals, including inter-organizational relationships between suppliers and customers. They must work much more with cross-functional teams within their firms to gain an understanding of the economics and operational dynamics of their firm. The goal of managerial accounting is to provide relevant and timely information economically for meeting strategic and operational objectives. Technology plays an important role in meeting these objectives.

At the end of this course, you should have fundamental knowledge about the design of modern cost management systems, how to use management accounting information for both recurring and strategic decisions, and when technology needs to be considered.

Operations Management

コース概要:

The study of operations management involves examining processes that deliver value to customers in the form of products and services. These processes exist in every part of every organization, and include activities related to customer service, finance, administrative functions, manufacturing, new product development, retail sales, transportation, warehousing, human resources, and advertising, just to name a few examples.

At the end of this course, you should be able to:
  • Describe the strategic role of service and manufacturing processes in all types of organizations.
  • Understand the importance of links between customer needs and process design.
  • Apply sound, critical logic to decisions about measuring and monitoring process performance.
